I am a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at the Beaumont Hospital and Euxton Hall Hospital. I have had an NHS base at the Royal Bolton Hospital since 1997 and have wide experience of all aspects of trauma and orthopaedic surgery. My practice now concentrates on surgery of the knee, lower limb joint replacement and sports-related trauma.

My clinical interests include:

  • Arthroscopic knee surgery

  • Meniscus repair

  • Knee ligament reconstruction

  • Surgery for the younger patient with arthritis

  • Osteotomy around the knee

  • Partial and total knee replacement

  • Revision knee replacement

In addition to my clinical work, I am active in the regional training programme for junior surgeons. I was Regional Adviser in Orthopaedic Surgery to the Royal College of Surgeons from 2007 to 2012, and I am currently Head of Training for Registrars in the region.

ONE: CONSULTATION

If you are having issues with your problem knee, I am here to help you as best I can. Please do come and have a chat with me about the problem. I will be able to give you the information you need so that we can make decision together about the way forward.

TWO: EVALUATION

History and examination are the cornerstone of getting to grips with your issues. I may need X rays, scans and blood tests to help with diagnosis and treatment decisions. However, the initial assessment is key to understanding your problem, and a guide to the treatment plan.

THREE: SURGERY

Surgery is by no means necessary in every case. If it is required, however, I will do my best to help you decide on the best option for you, what is likely to happen to you, and the risks and benefits of any recommended procedure.

FOUR: REHABILITATION

Most knee patients having knee surgery will need some physiotherapy input. Sometimes knee problems do not require an operation, but therapy is the main or only treatment required. This is because often, and certainly after surgery, your muscles and soft tissues need to recover after underuse, and have wasted away. Building up proper functioning muscle after surgery, or as part of knee treatment, is hard and only you can do this, aided by an expert physiotherapist.

If you require advice or recommendations about a suitable therapist for your individual care, please ask me.

FIVE: RECOVERY

I want you to recover as quickly and as fully as possible after your treatment. Myself, and expert therapy colleagues will be there to help you do this.
